I stopped at Best Buy on the way home tonight. An hour and a thousand dollars later, I walked out with a shiny, new HP laptop. OMG. Once the panic at spending that much money passed, I settled in and starting getting things set up.
It's going to take me a little while to get used to the keyboard. It's got a full ten-key number pad, which is awesome but means that the standard keyboard is a little bit off-center and the home, end, and page-up and -down keys are in a different orientation. But it's much more touch responsive than my Vaio. And now I've finally got a touchpad that fully functions again.
I'm allowing myself one more planned tech purchase this year, a new MP3 player. My 4-year-old Zen just finally fried out me at the gym yesterday. Four years is a pretty good lifespan considering the abuse I put it through. I actually tried to replace it tonight, but the only thing I liked at Best Buy - a 16GB Sony - was out of stock.

Last night I rang in the new year at Casa with the usual suspects (Fi, Lesa, Missi, and Bex). We colored and ate and watched the Kennedy Center Honors and Star Trek and the Fuse top 40 videos of the year countdown. So... pretty much what you would expect from us. Today is Missi and Fi and Mythbusters and more food. Feels like a good start.
